Our program is designed to provide comprehensive training for those wishing to pursue a career in primary general surgery or for those who are applying for post-graduate specialized surgical fellowships. We offer an indepth and diverse surgical experience. Since we do not offer fellowship training programs, surgical residents are offered the opportunity to participate in all operative procedures including surgical subspecialties such as head and neck, burns, oncology, cardiothoracic and peripheral vascular, colorectal, surgical endoscopy, plastic and reconstructive, urology, pediatric and transplant. Our fully-accredited teaching program provides core general surgery and subspecialty experience to third and fourth year NEOUCOM medical students. The WRCS faculty is a well-trained, highly motivated and academic group who are totally involved in surgical education. The Department of Surgery has a faculty of over 75 surgeons and 27 gynecologists who enthusiastically participate in resident teaching. In addition, Tod Children’s Hospital has 51 pediatricians and several hospital-based pediatric surgeons. Our staff of almost 175 primary care physicians complements the subspecialties. Over 15,000 surgical procedures are performed annually at WRCS. Because our case load is large, general surgery residents at WRCS perform a wide variety of surgical procedures under the supervision of active staff surgeons in the 18 surgical suites located at Northside Medical Center and Beeghly Medical Park. For more information, please call us at (330)-884-3472 locally, or (800)-865-0548 if outside the area. You may also contact us by e-mail in care of the Department of Surgery
