Residents in our Family Practice residency program receive extensive experience in a wide variety of subspecialties. The curriculum meets the essential standards established for residency training in Family Practice with longitudinal experiences in women’s health and geriatric care. The curriculum offers more flexibility in the second and third year for residents to design their own elective experiences.

Our Family Practice residency program recently underwent faculty revitalization to provide better availability to residents. The faculty draws upon their diverse backgrounds in educational and clinical experiences to provide residents with a complete education. The program also supports a full-time Director of Behavioral Medicine to assist residents in learning and patient care.

During their training, residents can develop procedural competency in the following areas: spontaneous vaginal delivery; neonatal circumcision; colposcopy with biopsy; flexible sigmoidoscopy; cryosurgery and minor surgical skin procedures.

Our Family Practice residency programs provide a good balance between structured learning, independent learning and family life. The program offers an annual retreat for residents and their families as well as social activities centered around graduation and the holidays.

Our Family Practice Center, located on the Northside Medical Center campus, is a major inpatient teaching facility. Over 250 patients from all walks of life are seen each week in the center.
