| Mental Health Services for Children & Adolescents
At the Center for Behavioral Medicine, Youth Services has provided treatment for children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral problems for more than 15 years. The highly-qualified staff provides effective care to children and adolescents facing challenges with anxiety disorders, phobias and school avoidance, depression, eating disorders, physical and sexual abuse, attention deficit with hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and family, conduct, school and social conflict.
We have learned through experience that the therapeutic needs of children are very different from those of adolescents. With this in mind, we offer two distinct, specialized programs—Child Mental Health (ages 4-12 years) and Adolescent Mental Health (age 13-18 years).
Many time, alcohol and drug issues are associated with emotional and behavioral problems. Youth Services also offers Adolescent Recovery Services, a program for drug and alcohol-related problems.
Comprehensive, Individualized Care
At Youth Services, we know that no two children and no two families are alike. Identifying the individualized needs of each patient is our first priority. Care begins with a complete evaluation including psychiatric, medical, psychological, educational, family, recreational and social assessment.
Our multidisciplinary treatment of mental health professionals include board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrists, psychologists, pediatric physicians, individual and family counselors, psychiatric nurses, certified teachers, recreational therapists and mental health associates. Our highly-trained educators work closely with the home schools to address academic problems and to ensure a smooth transition back to school.
Child Mental Health
Having a young child challenged with emotional and behavioral problems can turn a family’s world upside down. It creates a tremendous strain on the child, parents and siblings. We realize that just making the decision to seek help can be agonizing. But, once admitted to the Child Mental Health program, the youngster is introduced to a positive, highly-structured learning environment. For children, ages 4-12 years, the daily living schedule includes a variety of age-appropriate therapeutic activities.
Adolescent Mental Health
Adolescence is a confusing time, not only for teenagers, but for those who love them. At Adolescent Mental Health, teens, ages 13-18 receive help in sorting through the conflicts contributing to problems at home and school. The daily inpatient routine is highly structured with age appropriate therapeutic activities.
In both mental health programs, the students are involved in individual, group and family counseling, as well as recreational and educational therapy. The program also includes participation in our ChAMPS course. This 21-element ropes and initiatives course helps build self-esteem, self-confidence, cooperation, trust, communication and problem-solving skills.
