Adolescent Recovery Services The Center for Behavioral Medicine 500 Gypsy Lane Youngstown, Ohio 44501 330-884-3184
The Center for Behavioral Medicine’s Adolescent Recovery Services reflects a unique understanding of the varied and complicated problems facing chemically dependent and dual diagnosed teenagers and their families. We help adolescents (ages 13-18) recognize their addiction to alcohol and/or drugs as a disease that requires lifestyle changes for recovery. Dual-diagnosed teens, who struggle with the accompanying mental health problems, receive specialized, integrated care to overcome both challenges.
Thorough Evaluation...
A free assessment can be scheduled to determine the service best suited to the patients’ needs. Available programs for chemical dependency include:
- INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT THERAPY, which allows students to continue in their home school and attend therapeutic activities, individual, group and family therapy during the evening.
- PARTIAL HOSPITALIZATION allows patients to be at home during the evening to work on what they learn during the day in the therapeutic environment, which includes school, individual, group and family therapy and therapeutic activities.
Adolescent Recovery Services is our most intensive intervention for inpatients. If an assessment indicates that a patient needs to be in Adolescent Recovery Services, once admitted, our first priority is to determine if detoxification is necessary. Also during this evaluation period, we gather information allowing us to pinpoint the progression of the addiction on the continuum of chemical dependency. The next step is to identify the teen’s patterns of alcohol and other drug use and determine contributing factors, such as emotional, behavioral and physical problems, as well as family concerns.
Our multi-disciplinary team of professionals at Adolescent Recovery Services share a wealth of experience in the fields of chemical dependency and mental health. Sharing in each patient’s treatment are board-certified adolescent psychiatrists, psychologists, certified chemical dependency counselors, individual and family therapists, certified teachers, psychiatric nurses, recreational therapists and adolescent recovery associates. Each member of our team is committed to helping young people and their families break the destructive cycle of addiction and deal with the behavioral and emotional difficulties.
Treatment Philosophy...
At Adolescent Recovery Services, recovery is a 12-step process based upon the philosophy of Alcoholics Anonymous/ Narcotics Anonymous. As part of the treatment and support, patients attend meetings both on and off unit. We believe that chemical dependency is a family disease and we include the entire family in the treatment process. We have found that the success rates double with family involvement. Addiction is a disease that means tough choices about changing friends, habits and the environment. The more support available, the more positive the recovery process. We take special care to connect teens with recovering individuals in their own communities. Chemical dependency education is also key to the recovery process.
Structured Environment...
Since opening in 1986, we’ve treated thousands of adolescents and their families. We know that it is important for recovering teens to be in highly structured environments with supportive peers. In the inpatient program, as well as the intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs, patients participate in individual, family and group counseling; school, alcohol/narcotics anonymous activities and educational forums; and therapeutic recreational and leisure activities. Teens also participate in experiential counseling with CHAMPS - (Challenge and Mutual Problem Solving) which helps to build self-esteem, self-confidence, cooperation, trust, communication and problem-solving skills.
Aftercare...
So That Recovery Continues Planning for a patient’s discharge begins almost immediately after an adolescent is admitted to Adolescent Recovery Services. We know the importance of follow-up in the recovery process. That is why we offer an intensive outpatient program which allows students to remain at home to attend school and participate in therapeutic activities during the evening. Also available are multifamily group and a free weekly aftercare support group, and outpatient therapy is scheduled after discharge.
